  1. When the person started talking about Hawaii, that stuck out to me. When people think about hawaii they think beautiful beaches and vacations. But what they don't realize is that all fo their waste is washing up on the shores. Another thing that stuck out was all the plastic in the turtles stomach, you wouldn't expect there to be that much.

I never released how much plastic we produce as a country. Also the recycling labels with the arrows following each other mean nothing, it's just getting people to think that all of it is recycled when some of it just goes to a landfill.

    1. That is something I learned as well. For instance styrofoam has that label but it can't be recycled.

  3. The fact that even though we recycle, it all goes to the same place.

    1. It doesn't all go to the same place-it's that certain products can't be recycled and that some products, like water bottles, are usually only recycled once in our country. The big thing is to reduce especially with products that are single use items.

  4. Griffin- What stood out to me was how many cities and countries all over the globe have banned or put fees on plastic bags. That's something I didn't know about before seeing this video

    1. I would love to see that law brought to the state of Maine by teenagers. That would be great.

  5. Something that stood out to me in Bag it, was when he mentioned Fiji Water. This stuck out to me because whenever I have the chance to get a Fiji Water I get it because I like the bottle shape and the pretty picture on it. He mentioned how water from Fiji is sent to us just because we want to be able to choose where we are getting our water from. Now I understand that the bottle really means nothing and I get rid of it right after I'm done with the water, so there is no reason for me to buy it, when I could use a glass from my kitchen and get some tap water.

    1. Yes and in fact our water from Maine, which comes from Sebago Lake, is better regulated than water coming in bottles sold at the supermarket.

  6. One of the biggest things that stood out to me in the Bag It movie, was when I saw all of the trash in the ocean. It hit me that that trash could have been mine, I could have used that plastic bag that got caught on one of the animals. I want to change that.

    1. I agree. I think it takes baby steps and just taking notice of the things we use each day. We all have different habits. My bad habit is coffee cups.

It stood out to me that only some of the number 1 and 2's can be recycled.

  8. What stood out to me the most was how trash ends up in the ocean and on beaches. I never realized how dense the trash is in some areas. It's awful seeing how many species suffer from our trash; something that could have been easily avoided. Now that I've seen how harmful items like plastic can be on the environment, I'm more encouraged to reduce how much I use, and try to avoid plastic bottles all together. If everyone tries to cut back on the heavily-packaged products that they buy, it will make a big difference. Hopefully together we can fix the mess we've created.

  9. What stood out to me the most was the picture of the number of bottles we use like 5 seconds. If someone brought those to a redemption center than 1: that would be a lot of money and 2: they should melt it down and refine it.
Also they showed a bag going into the water, but they are defeating their purpose by letting plastic into the ocean. Just saying.

  10. Something that stood out to me was the fact that only the number 1s and 2s are recycled. I put things in the recycling bin everyday that are over the numbers 1 and 2. It seems like it is a scam because they tell you it's going to get recycled and then it doesn't. Another thing that stood out to me was how many plastic bottles and bags end up in the ocean. It seems ridiculous that people can't put things into trash cans or even better, a recycling bin. Trash cans are everywhere on the streets of big cities and you often find these bottles right next to it.

  11. One thing that stood out to me most from the movie is that some types of plastic and waste that end up in the ocean stay the same for the same amount of time as the Statue of David. To me that is such a huge amount of time, for something that will be used once for a short period time and then disposed of. Also, I found it interesting that plastic in the ocean, specifically the North Pacific Gyre, or the "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch", does not biodegrade but photodegrades into smaller pieces that end up in sea creatures stomachs. I was upset and astonished at how much marine life is killed or affected by the world's plastic waste.

  12. The part that I noticed most is how much the ocean animals are affected. It was really sad to see all of the dead/dying animals. And seeing the movie makes me feel like I should be doing something.

  13. What stood out to me is how much plastic the United States Produces. We are using a lot of petroleum and pretty soon it will run out with how much we are using.

  14. I found it ridiculous how barely any of what we actually put in our recycling bins gets recycled. When I take the time to rinse out a plastic container and put in the bin instead of the trash can I used to feel like I was doing a good thing. Now I see that in some cases I'd might as well just throw it away.

  15. The things that stood out to me the most was the size of the trash fields in the ocean. Almost the size of the USA! The movie opened up my eyes to how long plastic stays around and almost never breaks down. I thought that it was cool that there are many places that have banned plastic bags. We should do that here

  16. I thought that this documentary was really well done and it made me more understanding about plastic and its effects on the environment. I learned that recyclable materials are marked with a the recycle logo are also marked with a number that determines how much of the product can be used. Another part of the documentary that really stood out to me was that there are massive gyres in the ocean where plastic and other garbage ends up in the ocean. And because these materials take hundreds of years to break down, it is eroded into smaller pieces that animals can mistake for food.

  17. The bag it movie really opened my eyes about the dangers of pollution and that all trash and plastic ends up in the ocean. The thing that stood out the most to me was that all the trash gets eaten by ocean animals and ends up killing them. The population of many sea animals has gone down a lot and keeps getting worse. That is why littering is terrible and ruining the natural beauties of Earth.

  18. When the leader of the Sea Shepherd group (Paul something or other, I think) said how "Nature fixes it's problems and if it sees us as a problem then it will fix us", that really made me think. It almost makes me worry that we might not be around at the time that I'm supposed to die. When it is put like that it sounds so much more dreadful. I really hope that we can pull it together and stop polluting so we wont die of a man made disaster in fifty years.

  19. What stood out to me the most was that how it takes 1/4 of a bottle filled with oil to make that bottle, and how everything that we recycle and throw away all goes to the same place.

  20. The thing that stood out the most to me was when they went over how many products the world uses. Things like plastic bottles, soda cans, and plastic bags. I guess I just never thought about how many people really do use those products, I guess I always just kinda assumed that I was the only one, which seems kinda silly now. But learning that so so many of those products are used every day and then just thrown away really shocked me and made me think about why we even need those products they do us no good we use them once and then throw them away. So why do we still use so many of them if they're only used once?

  21. What stood out to me was how many bags we use a year. It's way to many and we need to really cut down on that to help the oceans and animals.
