At the Seeds of Peace camp, I learned that people who are having war against each other can live in peace with each other while they are living at the camp. I think that the kid who died should have not died and if he did not go then he would still be alive.

ReplyDeleteReal Bad Arabs because it made me realize how much america sterotypes arabs in movies. it showed me a sterotype in movies i never thought had anything to do with arabs like back to the future.

I chose the Seeds Of Peace movie because I learned no matter what religion you are, you can move past that and put your differences aside to get along. A kid at the camp said "the friends you make at Seeds Of Peace are your friends for life". I think that the camp is a great learning experience for everyone.
ReplyDeleteEmily W4
I chose the seeds of peace video because it was kids our age that were going through those hard times and it was easier to relate to. Also I liked hearing a lot of different opinions about some of the same issues. Something that stood out to me was after John Wallach died the girl stood up and tried to make everyone feel better about it. She seemed like she had a lot of wisdom for someone her age, I don't think I could do that. She wanted to keep the dream he had alive and boost everyone's spirits. Also something that stood out to me was the Arab girl who had to get married at such a young age, especially to someone who she didn't love and someone who hurt her. I think she had a lot of courage to break the engagement and I'm glad she did what she felt was right. I thought this movie and the whole concept of the Seeds of Peace is a cool thing. It sounds very fun and interesting.

I chose the seeds of peace movie!
ReplyDeleteI learned that people weren't even aloud to chose the language that the wanna speak. If someone caught them learning English they would beat them!
It's so sad the stories that i heard from the movie. and the way that people really had to live in a raciest world, where it was all around them.

I chose Reel Bad Arabs . When I whatched that video I didn't know that America sterotypes arabs in such a bad way. In think we should learned more about them before sterotyping them.
ReplyDeleteDaniel R4
i chose Seeds Of Peace Beacuse the people who are involved are Kids our age. Plus our generation can make a difference and Seeds Of Peace can help make this happen. The reason i say that Seeds Of Peace can help solve these battles is, because it's getting these kids from different places to work things out to hear eachother out, We Can Make A Difference!
ReplyDeleteBut....
Reel Bad Arabs, did make me think about how we protrait Arabs through T.V. and Movies. it's not cool! but most Of all i would say Seeds Of Peace! it sounds like a nice, cool program to check out!
I chose Seeds of Peace because people that were enemies got together, and learned that just because they are the "enemy" doesnt mean that they are bad people, or not human. Hopefully they can spread their message around and it willl become peaceful.

Real Bad Arabs. I learned about a bunch of steriotypes Arabs get from Americans and so I don't make those steriotypes in the future. It was interesting + funny, I learned new things.

I chose the seeds of peace video because the kids in the video changed a lot being at the camp and that stood out to me. The kids at the camp are from different religions and they don't like each other but each day they are there they learn more about each other and their religions and they talk about conflicts between their countries. I think that the camp was a good idea because it brings different cultures together and let's the kids talk about stuff with people they have never met before and and they get to see what they have to say.

ReplyDeleteI picked the Seeds of Peace video because it was more interesting and showed more peoples views and how there is nobody that are the same and can all get along just fine. I learned that it really does not matter about religion and race, you can like anyone or get along with them. Just like the Israelis and the Iran kids, they are kids from totally different places but yet again they learn to get along and be friends.
I think that it is a good idea to have a camp like that so all different culture kids can get together and learn all the same stuff.I also like how they become so close and call each other family, just like when the founder died and the girl stood up and said ''if our spirit stays alive he is alive''. That to me was very brave and it made John seem like there dad in a way. Its very good how these kids can become so close and they can tell anything to anyone because they learn to trust.

Reel bad Arabs
The thing that stood out to me was how Holly wood makes a lot of money from Arabs by always showing them as the bad guys and killing every thing in their path.
I chose the seeds of peace because the kids learned a lot about each other and got to know each other over their time there. Also because of what the kids said. What the kids said is the reason I chose it because the kids really didn't like each other when they started and by the end the could trust each other and talk to each other.

white day block 3. Hi its OJ DA JUICEMAN, I thought the seeds of peace movie was really real and raw it really told the truth about what these kids go through in thier native countries aboput war and persecution. I dont think i would be able to live in a world where i wouldnt feel safe walking down the street to go to the store.
ReplyDeleteI think that the seeds of peace movie was very inspirational to create equality and to make it become a real thing for the people over in the middle east but everywhere as well. There was some kids in the movie that insight of what they really want for Israel and for the most part they set aside their differences and came together as one. They listened to what each person has to say. In the end they all went home doing what they think is right becoming something that will make a difference for the right and not for the wrong. Also they weren't there to change for everyone but for themselves one girl wants to break the marriage against her future husband they do it for the people but for them as well to make the right choices in life and knowing what is right and wrong. Thats why I liked that movie because the camp is a sanctuary for them to find who they really are and who they want to become.

ReplyDeleteI piked the seeds of peace because it talked more about there relation and some of there differents. In the other move they talked about, that all Arabs are bad but some are real nice and are stuck in the ronge place.

ReplyDeleteAfter John died everybody forgot about there differences and all decited to continue to do seeds of peace to honor John.
If a few kids could do that then there is still a chance that they could solve their problems at home.

Seeds of Peace -
ReplyDeleteI learned about what other kids have to deal with and all the struggles they have to face. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to be afraid all the time and I think that Seeds Of Peace is a great way to bring people together in a safe environment.

I picked the movie about Seeds of Peace. I knew some things about the camp before the speaker and the movie because my cousins dad works there. I like how the camp has the children talk to each other about problems their "people" are having. It concerns them greatly because when they grow up, they could be in the psitions that their friends and family are in right now.

Reel Bad Arabs
ReplyDeleteI never noticed how much America stereotyped Arabs. I noticed that in pretty much every movie there is a stereotype of arabs or some type of racism. This movie pointed out all the movies that had arab stereotpes...some were, Aladdin, Rules of Engagment, True Lies, Invatation to the dance and many more.

Seeds of Peace
ReplyDeletethe thing that really stood out to me was how everyone came together when John died. Everything was messed up and no one was getting along, then they got the news of Johns death and one girl sttod up on a rock and said " this is what John would have wanted" and she got everyone to hug and sing the seeds of peace song. That was really amazing to me because it showed how much that one man affected so many lives, and changed many for the good. That one girl who stood on the rock i think she is partly responsible for what happened that year at camp, she brought everyone together...Good for her.
Sarah Ouellette R4
I choose the Seeds of Peace movie. What I learned from the movie is that there is always something that will bring people that hate eachother together and like eachother, although sometimes it may be very harmful to both people. What stood out to me was that they all hated eachother but when the guy died they just all of a sudden started likeing eachother again. My comment on the movie is that it was a very educational movie and I learned a lot about the different cultures of the people in the movie.

I chose 'Reel Bad Arabs' because it showed me how hollywood portrays arabs, even though they may be subtle once they're taken out and put into a movie like Reel Bad Arabs you can see how a lot of Americans get their stereotypes of Arabs.
ReplyDeleteJalen W4
I chose Reel Bad Arabs. Something that stood out to me was all the american films protraying arabs as bad people. I never knew there were so many and even Aladdin a kids movie was guilty of it. We do this with other races too and really are sending off the wrong message.
ReplyDeleteHaley=) RED3!!!
I think the stereotypes we saw in the Reel Bad Arabs movie were mostly lies. Not every Arab person is a terrorist or a bad person. People here in South Portland who are our friendly neighbors or friends. Also saying that all Arab girls are sexy and like to belly dance was another thing. Most Arabs try to hide the body except for the face.
ReplyDeleteAndy (the best) R3
I chose the Reel Bad Arabs movie. I didn't realize just how badly Arabs were portrayed by Hollywood before watching this movie. A lot of the stereotypes in those movies aren't even close to the truth. Arabs are human beings just like us, and Hollywood seems to have forgotten that.
ReplyDeleteChris R4
I chose to respond to the movie Reel Bad Arabs:
ReplyDeleteWhen I was watching this movie in class I didn't realize that American movie makers described Arabs in such a bad way. Even the movie Aladdin which I used to watch a lot when I was little kid has so many stereotypes in it. If my mom had realized what this movie was showing I doubt she would ever let me watch it again. A lot of other movies that I like stereotyped and now I am trying harder not to stereotype myself. When I heard how some people stereotype Americans it was not true and I don't want to spread false information about other people too. This is what I thought of the movie Reel Bad Arabs.
-Maryalice R3
i chose the seeds of peace movie. Something that really stood out to me was that it was basically just kids doing this and i could be one of them doing too. we are the future and we can change what happens and with all the bad things that are going on between those people they(we) could make a huge impact on the world. It must be hard to live in a world like that but it is their reality, which to us is a complete culture shock. I would love to be part of making a difference in our future for people who have to see killing every day of their life. That should never be a reality.
ReplyDeletetaylor R3
Heyyyyy! I chose Reel Bad Arabs, these movie makers are just throwing stuff out there without doing much research if any. This makes me wonder if in other movies they actually do the research they should and if the stuff is true. I do give some credit to those few who did do their research about the Arabs.Teehee.

I chose the Seeds of Peace video because I didn't realize how hard it was for these kids. These are kids my own age who deal with things in their everyday life that I can barely imagine. I was amazed at how brave they were to be able to come to this camp and try and resolve things no matter how much they hated the other side.

SEEDS OF PEACE
ReplyDelete- I learned that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Most people spend a lot of time talking when they could and should be listening to others opinions and outlooks on life. If you take the time and listen to what someone has to say, there is a greater chance that someone will do the same for you.
- I can't imagine living in my own country and not feeling safe, let alone my very own house knowing that at any moment I may die. We take things for granted and don't realize how lucky we are to have them until they are gone and out of reach.
Emily R4
I chose the Seeds of Peace Video because all these kids have such hards lives and have gone through so many tough times and probably people they loved have been killed by their enemies but at camp they learned to talk and have friendships with "their enemies". They realize not every Israel or Palestinian is bad and they need to work together in order to have peace.
ReplyDeleteMolly R4
The movie I chose was Reel Bad Arabs. I chose it because I never thought that in hollywood movies I would see so much steriotypes. In this movie it showed me that just by what we here on the news is put into movies, and makes Arabs look crazy and just want to cause violence. Also in "Aladdin", the parts they showed in the film, I never noticed in the movie, even for a childrens movie, it is still made out with steriotypes and Arabs being the "crazy" people that Americans are making them out to be.
ReplyDeleteDan.G Red3
Reel Bad Arabs.
ReplyDeleteThere are many stereotypes against Arabs that are not true, or accurate. Honestly, I don't understand the need to demoralize, and alienate these people. Arabs do not deserve this treatment, therefore all stereotypical thoughts about them should cease immediately. If people read into the culture of Arabic people, there would be a better understanding and connection between us.

the seeds movie.
ReplyDeletei think that this movie was pretty cool and showed the heat that can be produced in a conversation between 2 fighting countries. I thinik that it is pretty cool that the whole thing takes place in maine. a few people in the movie really stood out to me as leaders or kids with really strong opinions.

ReplyDeleteWhen the guy went to the rally and was killed.
I thought that it said a lot when he had like 20 seeds shirts in his closet and instead of being buried in nice clothes, he was buried in the bloody seeds shirt he was shot and killed in.

I chose the Reel Bad Arabs movie.
ReplyDeleteI learned about different forms of racism that are portrayed in movies. I never noticed these before, I hadn't seen most of the movies, but it was really interesting having those things pointed out. In Alladin I never would have thought they portrayed Arabs as bad violent people. It comes up several times in that movie and when I was young I never noticed it.
Andrew-R4
I think that everybody from Seeds of Peace acted like the boy who got shot, then they might of made a difference. I think that they have to act together, and not like individuals.
ReplyDeleteRoman Davydov Red4
Real Bad Arabs really stood out to me because I'd never noticed how ethnocentric American films are. I'd always known that the films support the political "Good Guys" but never how much they go against the "Bad Guys". I also didn't know the American military and other organizations fund and film movies simply for Anti-Arab use.

I chose Seeds of Peace because I didn't see the other movie :). All of the kids in the movie seemed to have such strong opinions and so much to say. I don't understand why the "higher-ups" of Palestine and Israel don't do something about the fighting and killing after so many years; don't they see all the suffering their people are going through? It's just sad that the kids in the movie didn't seem to be living happy lives because of the state their country is in.
ReplyDeleteLauren P R4
I chose the Reel Bad Arabs movie. I never really noticed how people portray arabs or even how I do. I guess I never realized that they we're like us and that actually the Middle East has a lot of the same things we do. Its still hard for me to picture them in any other way but at least seeing the video made me aware that the way I picture them isn't correct
ReplyDeleteHayley B, W3
Seeds of Peace had some really good points about different cultures and how everyone's lives are different but the same at the same time. I thought it was really cool how so many kids that live in many different parts of the world and were actually raised to hate each other could co-exist and get along. They fought sometimes and got their feelings out about issues and stereotypes and stuff but my the end of the whole camp they came together and got along and realized that it doesn't matter what someone looks like or where they are from, it only matters whats on the inside. Which I thought was pretty cool since you always hear bad things about people from they middle east but seeing that movie it just shows that they are like everybody else in the world
ReplyDeleteJoey R4
The Seeds of Peace video:
ReplyDeleteSomething that i figured out was that even when they take the teenagers out of their countries and they aren't surrounded by violence they still have hatred towards each other.
It is a little weird that they would act that way because if they just talk to each other they would get to understand each other and because there is no violence it would be easy to communicate and understand each other.
Dylan R4
In the Reel Bad Arabs video something that stood out to me was how some movies like Gladiator had Arabs in their movie when they weren't part of the plot. Also I never really realized that Arabs were being stereotyped in movies. I never really paid attention to it because it wasn't my ethnicity that was being stereotyped. Its a very serious subject because if Arabic people see these movies that stereotype their people it might just fuel their hatred for America.
ReplyDeleteMichael Salvatore R3
i picked the seeds of peace movie because it has a lot more point of views than reel bad arabs or whatever that movie was but i do believe that the seeds of peace movie was way more interesting with the point of views and interviewed more then one person through the whole movie
ReplyDeleteSophia Johnson W4
I chose seeds of peace because it shows how all kinds of different people feel about other countries and it showed a lot about taking the time to listen to other people and seeing what they have to say about something. Once you take the time to talk about an important or serious subject then you realize other peoples opinions. It also talks about how in other countries there are people dying all the time and I think it would be frightening not knowing when or where there could be a bombing or something.
ReplyDeleteLogan block W4
Movie: Seeds of Peace
ReplyDeleteStuck out: A lot of the people there weren't really focused on making peace as much as they were on stating opinions and arguing about whether the other group is right or wrong, that is, until the owner of the camp died.
Comment: If you are just going to a camp meant for making peace and teaching coexistence to fight with the other groups of people and say that they are wrong and you are right what's the point of going at all? Also, why should it take a person dying to make you realize that peace is what you all want? I think that it's ignorant to finally recognize how wonderful somebody is after they have passed, when they have been an amazing person all along.
-------Ashley R3
I choose the movie Reel Bad Arabs. It shows the American Sterotype of Arabs and even other groups of people. The thing that interested me the most was when the host of the movie broke down the opening song of Aladdin. It made me relize the thoughts of other americans. Also the True Lies movie showed me how people actually see Arabs as terrorists.
