  1. "Teen favorites also include so-called "graphic novels," such as manga, that include illustrations or comic panels". I would agree with this and it is something I have observed in my own children. My son is nine and loves reading graphic novels. I have found it takes some getting used to for me, because I am not used to reading that format, but the panels and drawings add a lot of depth to the story. He loves to draw and visualize so this aspect of graphic novels really pulls him into the story. I think that this trend will continue as more authors break into the market and grow up reading these types of books. Ms. F

    1. "No matter what teens are doing, we need to show them they need to keep reading on their radar and make time for it,"This bothers me because when she that it seems that what she thinks that we teens don't read and that not true because most teens read more often but what i think that she is saying that we don't read the books that she want us to read because books are books right and we are still reading. "The Hunger Games" series is now as nearly big a phenomenon as "Twilight." Teen favorites also include so-called "graphic novels," such as manga, that include illustrations or comic panels. I agree with this because really teens don't want to read about history they want to read more interesting book for example the hunger games that was a big hit why because it was exciting interesting and had something to read for exact thing with twilight. Even though she is saying so called graphic novels as they say its still better than all of that history and boring books. Elva Guevara

  2. "For some students, traditional book reading for pleasure is not a first choice because they equate reading with schoolwork." I agree with this quote. Some students just don't have time for reading for pleasure anymore. Between homework, sports, jobs and friends, sometimes there really isn't time to just sit and read a book for fun. -Audreanna Bridges

  3. " A detailed analysis into the trend on reading for fun - in books, newspapers and magazines - comes from researcher Sandra Hofferth, of University of Maryland, who analyzed the detailed daily time-use diaries of a nationally representative sample of children 12 to 18. "

I agree with this because I'm 15 and I like to read a lot of things in magazines and stuff that is happening in real life. It's much more better than reading in a chapter book. I think a lot of kids my age enjoy reading news papers, magazines and some books just for fun.

  4. "Randi Adleberg, head of the high school English program at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax County, says that overall, she thinks the trend is positive. If reading online and in game-playing are taken into account, "I think the digital age has probably increased reading," she said." online verse.

i highly agree. i read more using my ipad than i do actual books. it is also easier to understand, and read through without having to reread, while on my ipad.

  5. "getting teens to read for fun has always been a challenge, but now, time is a bigger obstacle." I agree because, there is a lot of technology these days, and everyone is either on their cellphone or laptop, and a lot of people can be busy too and they find that they just don't have any time to read. Technology keeps getting bigger and bigger too, so now getting kids to read is probably as difficult as it has ever been.~~Emily Whynot

  6. "Classics are not read as much as the more contemporary fiction,". I would agree with this because I believe that the books we (teens) are reading are more fiction and the non-fiction books are left for school. I feel like teachers assign a lot of older books and classics more than new books. I don't know if they give us those books because there is an important lesson in some of those, which I know there is in some, but couldn't there be newer books with the same objective? Jake Maloney

  7. "Still, she says, technology "can also pull you together with people who like the books you like" on fan sites and in online forums, for example."

I agree with this quote because the internet has everything on it now. Everyone uses it. Instead of textbooks, they use the internet cause it has one on there. Everything has been transferred to the internet. So yes I do agree with this quote.

  8. "For some students, traditional book reading for pleasure is not a first choice because they equate reading with schoolwork." I agree with this statement because I have seen in classes that when a teacher assigns a book kids think it's a drag, so then when we think about finishing a book outside of school we relate it to school and that makes it harder to get into it. I feel that when school starts there isn't enough time in the day to start and finish a book so I usually don't read as much in the school year as I do in the summer.

  9. After reading the article, I think that reading a text from a friend should not really count for "reading". Reading a text message is different than reading a novel, so I think that even though the amount of reading is the same, it really has gone down because what people are reading more of is things on phones. I think that reading what people write on the internet has made my grammar even worse. About graphic novels, depending on how it is set up, I think most often, reading a bunch of dialog from characters will not do anything for you, but be something to read for pleasure.-Leisa Bauman

  10. "Teens are still reading for fun." I would definitely agree with this because I enjoy reading immensely and I try to read whenever I can. I mostly read mysteries by James Patterson because I love the twists and turns of the story.

  12. "If reading online and in game-playing are taken into account, "I think the digital age has probably increased reading," she said." I disagree with this statement. With technology, more kids are playing video games or awatching television than reading. There may be some reading involved with playing online games, but it takes all of the creative thinking out of it. When reading a book, you create your own interpretation of the characters and setting. I think that, even if technology does increase reading, it is not the kind of reading that actually makes your brain work. I know that I would read a lot more if I did not have a television. Reading would be my source of entertainment. ~Victoria Holt

  13. “The way Taylor sees it, getting teens to read for fun has always been a challenge, but now, time is a bigger obstacle”

I agree with this quote because, I think it is hard for teens to read and that it’s a challenge. We all have “better” things to do with our lives like hang out with our friends, watch tv, go on the computer, etc. We all get so used to doing that stuff, and we wouldn’t want to change it. Plus, since we are forced to read in school, it makes kids not want to read for fun. Most kids are pretty busy, but I think time isn’t an obstacle, I think it’s more that kids aren’t interested in reading. Miranda Gleason

  14. making time for reading is not the problem its the fact that most people don't like reading and for some people including me its hard to find good books. Also it doesn't help that in middle school the teachers picked the books for us so we didn't get a strong idea of what kind of books we like.

  15. "When Olivia really likes a book, as with the last of the "Twilight" series, she rereads - maybe 20 times." I know how she feels about books because I do the same thing with books I like I will reread them over & over again because of how good they are. That's all from Hunter M. Red block 2

  16. The way Taylor sees it, getting teens to read for fun has always been a challenge, but now, time is a bigger obstacle”

I agree with this quote because, I believe kids don't to read on there free time because they are forced to read at school everyday. Teens right now would rather be hanging out with their friends or playing video games etc, then wasting time reading and not having fun, and since most these kids do that as a daily routine not many teens would go out of their way to read a book. I wouldn't say time isn't a obstacle because its just that kids don't like to in general
