Why Angry People Can't Control the Short Fuse

Please read the article and respond to one or two main points.

  1. I think this article makes some very legitimate points. I agree that everyone has triggers for their anger. Not all people get mad about the same things. I wasn't fully aware that anger can cause so many problems. I think it makes sense that people who have high stress levels do end up having medical issues. Overall, I think this article has many good points about anger and I learned a few things from it. -Maddie Twomey

  2. At one point in my life, I couldn't trust anybody with my problems and situations I had been dealing with during the beginning of my young, teenage life. I couldn't trust anybody, nor could I bring myself to trust anyone. I held in alot of anger, which turned out to be a grim mistake on my part.

After talking to a therapist about my problems, he had given me advice to bring myself to trust people. If I was going to live a normal mental state of mind, I needed to trust people. I'm glad I listened to him, because if you don't have people to trust, your state of mind goes out of wack and there really is not much of a way out.
Things like this take time to heal. Much more than your normal everyday cut or bruise.

  3. I think this article is truth to it because you see several people getting mad over traffic or at work and in every day life. It also shows that most people don't know how to control their anger, which is true. People never really take the time to try and control their anger they just let it out and it will end badly. That's what I think about the article.

  4. To control anger people can think of alternate ways of expressing their emotions. Try not to harm or anger someone else while expressing your anger and try counting to 10 to give time to calm down.

  5. I agree that finding something funny in the situation and distractions like listening to music can help your anger. I think that the person who stopped in front of him wasn't very smart to indanger people. Also if he wanted to get by and move faster stopping in front of the car every 2 seconds didn't help him get where he wanted any faster.

  6. It definitely makes me n ot want to be angry because i don't want a heart attack or stroke. It also makes sense that a person who is angry may also die from a car crash because if you are aggressive it is more likely to crash crash. I also remember getting in trouble in pre school and having to get a time out, which I think worked.

  8. I think some of the things that trigger anger are pretty small and pointless like getting really mad at a red light because there's nothing you can do about it except wait. But I thought it was pretty pointless to try to get some other person mad on the highway because they're not driving fast enough.

  10. I found this reading interesting. I know that I might get angry sometimes but I couldn't ever see my self do a stunt like that guy did on the highway. Doning something like that could endanger myself or many other people. I never knew that anger and stress was all caused from hormones. I just thought that it was from the things that you have been exposed to in life. I Think that the article could've been much better if it didn't just mostly target adults. I liked the article and thought that it had good and realistic information but I just thought it would've been better if it applied to teenagers and was more specific with some of the details, like how to deal with anger and stress.

  11. People should only get angry if they have a true reason and driving on the road getting mad a a driver is not a real reason. Also if you get angry you can have a chance to kill people

  12. I think the article gives perfect examples of people wth anger problems. There are many dirvers with anger problems that can lead to health concerns both to others and yourself. For example, heart attacks, car accidents, etc. People with these issues should be more aware and go to anger management or other forms of counciling. I think that the cause of anger is from people around you, your or someone elses actions and words or even something tragic that happened and brought out your emotions. ~LuLu Marchant

  13. I think this is a good article, many people in America have anger problems and this can be effective for many people. 1) some people may want to change but are not sure how. This article give way to calm yourselves, like taking a deep breath, let your self calm down before making a move. also this is a good article from people who may not realize that they have anger problems. In that case the article gives the
different things that can provoke someone, like a red light, bad boss or employee and inattentive spouse

  14. The first main point was that people with anger issues die sooner. I think that that is a huge deal. Everyone wants to live longer so people should try to be more happy and not get so worked up. Another key point was how to control your anger. This is key because angry people should learn how so they can control their anger. One way they said in the article was taking deep breaths. Cal Carr

  18. My reaction to the article was that it just shocks me that some people have a good temper and others don't. To me, I think that it depends on how your parents act and how you were raised. Like you are influenced by the people you are around.

It shocks me so much that ones temper can cause you to go on a shooting spree and not feel bad while you are doing it, then the person feels bad after. It's like they get taken over by their heads and their temper they can't even think straight.

  19. "When Small children act up, parents these days are likely to give them a 'timeout'. Likewise, people prone to anger need time to calm down and collect their thoughts.

I like how this compares the actions and what to do after an action to a small child. It's interesting how the same thing can work for adults.

  20. People who get angry often in real life are undesirable and don't always have friends. Their rage becomes worse and worse until eventually people can't stand to be around them. Rage can actually lead to heart attacks, I think. Simple calming exercises should be used.

  23. "rage is now more common now than it used to be or we are simply now more aware of it." In my opinion rage has now became more common than it used to be because people are getting use to new things like new school, tests, jobs, and maybe households. It's just to hard and they get into a rage. But they can find a balance in their lives they don't need to be in a rage.

  24. I think that anger is a dangerous thing, and some people have it harder then others. Short tempers are something to be aware of around other people, especially when your in a group and some of them have anger issues or disorders. You can get help from people who are experts on anger.

  25. My reaction torwards this is that I feel sorry for people who can't control their anger. Because, sometimes events are just put on them that can't be avoided. And those events cause them to be angry for the rest of their life. But the part that makes me feel sad is that people that are hostile or angry are less likely to live.

  26. I agree that people with high hostility have a higher chance of dying. It can cause heart disease and it puts yourself in hard situations. When you blow your top you can risk your job, spouse, and health which makes life hard.

  29. My reaction for the article was I just couldn't believe it! How can someone get so angry they want to kill someone they know or don't know at all. It makes me angry and upset all at the same time. I get angry at this because the people hurt people, and I get upset because they could hurt them and be damaged forever.

"It is easier to change your expectations and recognize that life is often neither fair nor easy than it is to change the world." Dr. Rosenthal said that when talking about people that tend to blow their fuse a little too easily. Sometimes people need to take a step back and look at the situation that's going on around them rather than try to change the situation. Some people try way to hard to be in control of their surroundings all the time, unfortunately it is impossible for everyone to be in control of everything all the time.
People in general are all nice people, but sometimes they have an issue with controlling how they act. Things like caffeine can cause you to act irrationally and not think before you act. Sadly to say, people that blow up at everything are much more likely to die at an earlier age of things like a heart attack. Anger attacks the heart apparently.
There are many ways that someone can control their anger, or at least not show their frustration. Some people may enjoy listening to some music or reading a book. This could help people not blow up. Sometimes it may be impossible to not blow up, but it can cost you a whole lot if you don't control it. You can lose your family, your wifey, hubby or your job by just once going a little crazy.
It's worth it for your health, for you life and for others around you for you to learn how to control your anger. People need to try to take things easy and not blow up too quickly. If everyone could just try to make the best out of things we could all move along a little easier.

  31. My oppinion is that angry people should just calm down because they're hurting themselfs and other people. The studys show that they are more likely to die sooner than happy people.

  34. If, you're angry, I think that you should just step back so you're alone for a while and just give yourself some time to cool down. It's hard while you're angry to allow yourself to just walk away, you just want to punch the person or a wall with all your strength. But if you are able to just step away for a few minutes, you'll be saving yourself from the guilt of doing something if you blow up on them, and saving the person from getting even angrier and from them doing something they'll regret later on. A good method is to think about something funny or that nothing good will come out of freaking out at this person. Think about something to look forward to so you can get your mind off your anger. If you do this, I think it will be effective.

  35. I think that when people get angry, sometimes it's a legitimate reason. Other times it may not be. They might just be having a bad day. Other times, people might gave an actual disorder that makes them so angry at times. Whatever the reason, there are always ways to cure it. For bad days you can think of happier things. A disorder? They have prescriptions to help calm your raging anger. Also, anger is what makes us human. Human as a species are naturally violent and angry. It's just how we are as a species.
